The United States Postal Service (USPS) sells boxes and packaging materials. Depending on the size of the item and the method you choose for shipping (Priority Mail) they may give you the box free. They will not package it for you; you’ll have to do that. You can also go to a place like MailBoxes Etc. or other shipping store to mail your item and they WILL package it for you for a fee, as well as offer the box and packaging materials for a fee. But no company is going to package it for you for free; that’s what they’re in business for. When shipping, keep in mind you should take the necessary steps to make sure the item you’ve sold is packaged to prevent damage during shipping. If you purchased an item online, you’d want it to arrive undamaged and you have the obligation to send the item you have sold so it doesn’t arrive damaged. Make sure there’s enough room in the box to allow enough packaging, like foam peanuts – plastic or bio-degradable – to protect the item you’ve sold. Insure it. It will protect you from damage claims if the item is received broken. Keep in mind the USPS is notoriously bad for making good on claims; there’s always a reason for them to deny responsibility. I prefer to ship via United Parcel Service (UPS). Items are automatically insured for $100 and they respond quickly to damage claims, as well as providing very accurate tracking information so you’ll know when your shipment was delivered and who signed for it. You’ll still have to get it packaged, but it’s worth the effort. The packaging can be done for you (for a fee) at a local UPS Store.
